~The Winter Blah~

~The Winter Blah~

An awesome friend of mine, who is a massage therapist, states “tap your feet or jump up and down” to get your energy flowing. This works! Maybe you are sitting in your office or driving in the car and you are on your last string of energy. Start tapping.

This works, so here is what she told me to do.

1. Start tapping your feet if you can not jump up and down. Jump up and down if that is your preference and you are on solid ground.

2. Identify the emotion / feeling that you are experiencing right now.

3. Speak to your self about it.

4. Focus on your center. Your center is your body core where you feel changes in your emotion.

5. Do all of this and keep tapping or jumping.

All said and done you will feel a sence of renewed energy.

20 Below and Frozen

This is no exaggeration!  Brrr! The Dogs do not even want to go outside this morning. Our Boxer is so smart that he stands 10 feet from the door, puts his nose to the floor, takes a few sniffs and then looks at me like I am crazy to expect he needs to do business outside. Hey… I was not in charge of these rules. This dog is so smart that I am surprised that he has not invented his own indoor business operation. That was acceptable of course…

Its 20 below outside and I need to focus on unfreezing the passion that is bubbling inside me to reach more readers. What a perfect morning to test my discipline and dedication to the mission and vision of MOTM. Honestly, my body tells me different. The mind tells me get er’ done and the body says BUNDLE UP friend.

The Lord will send you through a series of growth challenges when you are following his direction. Sometimes we interpret these challenges wrong or we may think “This can’t be… this hurts … things appear to be falling apart.” Hm? Guess what … I introduce you to the “Growth Challenge”. This is when the Lord puts you directly into the things that make you uncomfortable to challenge your growth.

I have been through many. One recently that I have experienced and I might boast an itsy little bit, I am mastering, is completing the task. Know anyone who starts something and does not finish it? I do. Its me. It is comical how the Lord works. He does not always throw the painful hard stuff at you. He sometimes throws a little humor into the mix. He has me knitting scarfs. Oh boy… I just lost all of you men readers. No, really stick around. I have a point.  As my passions grow toward my goals God knows the unfinished project is something that could really ruin this opportunity. Because I love humor and a good laugh. He has me knitting scarfs.

These are the key points I have learned…

1. Reasonable Goal– Small project that can be completed in a short period of time.

2. Reaching the Goal– The repetitive action to stitch the scarf represents success by repeating what works over and over again to reach the goal.

3. Reward of Completion – The finished project is rewarding and people love them.

I have knitted 10 scarfs over the last two weeks and a fire has been ignited. I am not going into the scarf business by any means. This has shown me the hands on concept to reach the goal of “complete what you start”. It clicked!

The Lord works in mysterious ways. I am now wearing my Moms On The Mend scarfs and they represent the “Growth Challenge”. Hey … how perfect for a 20 Below and Frozen day!

Many Scarfs

~Come Back for more is to come on Moms On The Mend’s “Growth Challenge”.~

Make it an awesome day & thank you for reading!

One Sock On… One Sock Off

Have you ever felt that the breakthrough is right there and that you are right on the edge of something amazing? Then, there it is, the one thing that you struggle with that sneaks in and steals your ambition and your dream. It fills your head with doubt that discourages you and you find yourself paralyzed in your tracks.

One Sock On One Sock Off              One Sock On One Sock Off               One Sock On One Sock Off

Its like sitting there with One Sock On ….. and One Sock Off….

Snap out of it!

If you have a vision that has been placed in your heart and you are stuck, then what is it that is stopping you from embarking on that exciting journey? Find it … own it … and challenge it. You will be successful if you believe in yourself. The key is believing in yourself and that God does not give us more than we can handle. It will be hard and there will be failure. You will get back up and try again and again. NEVER give up and never let anything steel your dream. If it is meant to be, everything will fall into place. Your faith, spouse, kids and finances will fall into place.

I recently read that over 80 % of the population have not discovered their passion. Is this maybe because  we are terrified to venture out and give it a try? Are we afraid that everything that depends on us will suffer? Have you ever thought about the possibility that if you embark on your passion that it may inspire all of the individuals who rely on you? Here is a thought…. our country appears miserable at times and miserable things are happening. If the population was happier and not so bound up in the box we put ourselves in … Would things change? Could it be contagious to our younger population to find their passion and how would this impact our country?

Wow… a lot to think about, Huh?

It states in the book of Ezra 4:4 that the people set out to discourage the people of Judah and make them afraid to go on building the temple of the Lord.  They actually hired counselors to work against them and to discourage them. Have anything or anyone in your life that discourages you?

Fear and discouragement are the two greatest obstacles that will hinder God’s work. They are known to show up when you least expect. These tear your dreams down and paralyze you so you give up. In the word God’s people in every age experienced these great obstacles and with God they overcame them. There will always be nay sayers. They will make you stronger to endure the bumps of success.

Let’s claim the dream right now together! One day at a time, little by little, set your goals everyday and get er’ done.

When two or more are gathered together…. Nothing is impossible with God!

24 Days Til Christmas

Luke 22:66-71

At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief of priests and teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. “If you are the Christ,” they said, “tell us.”

Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me, and if I asked you, you would not answer. But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”Luke 22:66-71

At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief of priests and teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. “If you are the Christ,” they said, “tell us.”

They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?” He replied, “You are right in saying I am.”

Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from His own lips.” (NIV Life Application Bible)

We are a skeptical society. We have all experienced some kind of damaging experience in our lives. So… sometimes even when the truth is right in front of our nose we question its validity. It is our way of protecting ourselves from any more damage, disappointment and loss. We can be our own worst enemy if we are not careful of how we interpret truth verses non-truth, pending the source.

This Christmas season, I ask you, take a risk. The emptiness we experience over the holiday season may be because of our inability to let go and let God in. We search for every other way to fill the emptiness. Take the risk… Let Jesus in… let Him fill your heart with overwhelming joy… and let it overflow into every part of your life. This is a priceless gift and can never be taken away. A gift that will fill your life with growth, healing and so much more.

My gift to you this season is our Lord & Savior…  Jesus Christ!

25 Days Til Christmas

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall

call his name Immanuel.

Isaiah 7:14

Don’t Pet Me, I Am Working…

It just amazes me how when the presence of the Lord falls in a place… the power that proceeds it.  You see… when you fall into a dark place in life, there is light at the end of the tunnel and it is not a train. You will be made whole again, you will find joy, you will find peace and let no other flesh being discourage you. He is greater than he who is in the world… that includes any flesh in this world that is attempting to defeat you. Greater is He that is in ME… right! There is FREEDOM in His grace.

This year while I attended our yearly Women OF Faith conference… it was like no other I have ever experienced. The presence of the Lord was heavy and pouring over the whole building after an acapella performance by Natalie Grant. I could not hold back the tears that pressed to the surface. I excused myself and off to the lady’s room I went and as I walked through the packed hallways of women, the environment suddenly felt different to me.  Something very interesting happened in the lady’s room… as I was washing my hands I looked down beside me and there was a beautiful… sweet yellow lab dog. The pup had a sign on him that was attached to a harness with a handle on it and it stated “Don’t pet me, I am working”. At first I thought to myself, ahh, what a sweet dog. Then the words “Don’t pet me, I am working” started to turn in my head.

This beautiful animal was leading a blind women through life. I began to think of all the moments I have made that one step forward into a blind moment… scared, filled with doubt and nothing to physically hold on to. Although, there was a still small voice telling me… go ahead… I am with you. When I think back to all of those difficult moments and look at my life today, there is absolutely NO doubt that He was with me. He was with me every step of the way. Even when I was doubtful and filled with fear He never left me or forsaken me. The Lord IS our guide in every circumstance where we are blind. He wears the sign for each and every one of us… “Don’t pet me, I am working”. He is faithful even when we are not. He sees everything that we can not see. He knows every outcome beyond our imagination or expectation. He forgives if we ask and never takes it back.

If you have not let Him in… Let Him in… Let Him show you how personally intimate He is. Today is your day to LET GO and LET GOD. Let Him put on His seeing eye dog apparel for you.  We are all blind and in need of the one and only shepherd Jesus Christ our Lord & Saviour.

He says to you today… I am here for you and I have applied my sign so we are not interrupted on our journey “Don’t pet me, I am working for _____ indefinitely”. (Put your name in the blank.)

Make this a great day & Abundant blessings to you.

The Perfectly Realistic Holiday

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving… Today you are going to choose how this holiday will turn out. Yep, that’s what I said, you are going to choose how this wonderful God-given day will turn out. How? Why? Because you can… He chose you to be born and He chose you to be present today. He chose you! You were hand-picked to read this today. There are no coincidences. So, you wonder… what does this have to do with anything? This has to do with everything… absolutely everything!

Remember back to your young school days. You are standing in a group of kids, and two captains are chosen,  you were either confidently waiting to be picked or you were insecurely hoping to be picked. I have great news! In the kingdom of our Lord and Saviour, we are all chosen. The catch here is … will you choose Him back?

Life is hard and sometimes utterly painful especially when the Holidays roll around. These are the days that you are more sensitive to things like family, being single, not being with your children or on another note you become overwhelmed with generosity to help others. I had a friend of mine share with me tonight how the holiday “mumbo Jumbo”, you know, the advertising hype of romance and family… the perfect appearing world holiday stuff, had her down. I understood where she was coming from completely. Since I was a little girl I had this fantasy of my family being together for the holidays. Most of my family lived 1500 miles away in those days. I remember standing in my bedroom window, with a christmas candle glistening off the glass,  my little nose was so close I could feel the cold from outside and if I let out a breath it would fog the glass for a moment. I would gaze out the window and just dream of all of my family around the table for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Random memory’s would surface to my mind  when we used to all be together. One of the memories is of my grandpa going into the chest freezer. It is such a simple memory, although when I think about it, I can clearly see him taking the pretty glass swan and place mat off the freezer so he could get to the ice cream. Grandma always had these colored Tupperware bowls and spoons next to the freezer on a small table. I never remember him scowling at the fact that grandma had to decorate the top of the freezer with a very large nik nak. It appeared to be a lot of work though for a bowl of ice cream. It is a miracle that the beautiful glass swan never was broken, at least I do not remember it being broken …  however, moving it back and forth and back and forth… to get to the ice cream. Anyway… this simple memory kept me hopeful that one day we would have the perfect family holiday’s in the future again.

Then there comes a day, when you are all grown,  all of your holiday dreams come true and… BAM! all those perfect fantasized holidays become perfectly realistic holidays.  Now, I am not saying this is all bad… but, I am saying the fantasy is not always as we imagine it. I am sure you can think of an example off the top of your head… right?

In this case disappointment may set in. We have an expectation that exceeds the reality. The exposure to the media and how the holidays are perceived and planted into our brains has set us up for disappointment and disappointment is painful. Soooo…. these scripture help me in these moments.

In all ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. Proverbs 3:6

He that is in me is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4

I had a very special friend tell me a few years ago, when I was going through a very challenging time in my life, that from this day forward you can choose how your life will be. I remember the conversation well. The Fall is my favorite season of the year. The radiant colors, pumpkins, Mums, corn stalks, the smell in the air of the dry leaves and the anticipation for snow. Mmmm… We were having a conversation and I discovered how it seemed that the Fall was when I experienced most of my life challenges. It was almost seasonal. This really upset me. This is my favorite season and I felt as though I could never enjoy it. Hm? My sweet friend turned to me and said “You have eliminated the problem and now you have no excuse to not make every Fall from this day forward what you want it to be.”

This did not set in with me right away… but, when the next Fall season came around, I remembered and I made the choice to make it a good season. This does not mean that there aren’t any challenges. There are. The important concept here is that I changed my circumstances and now I had no excuse… I get to choose to enjoy my life. In the word God says in John 10:10, ” I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance.”

So, today… choose how your Thanksgiving day will be, disregarding possible disappointments and the perfectly realistic holiday mumbo jumbo . Think of five things that you are grateful for and do not let anyone take that away from you today.

Happy Thanksgiving & Abundant Life and Blessing to You today and always!

In Your Shoes

Are you in a place where you can say… “I am comfortable in my shoes” ?

If you are not in this place than I pray right now for you to know that the Lord has a plan for you to be in such a place. I better explain what I am talking about. I am talking about you having the ability to understand why you tick the way you tick, knowing when it is time to change and what to change, and understanding that God has a plan and a calling on our lives. I am not saying to become complacent and lazy comfortable. We are talking about a place of secure confidence, with the ability to be humble so God can use you to impact the world.

Where is God asking you to be obedient right now in your life. Are you? or Are you dragging your feet? The Lord is asking you to come to the line. I think one of the most challenging parts of being obedient is ourself. All of the things we question and doubt that get into the way of  taking that stand in obedience and seeing what is on the other side. If you are anything like me… I have always needed to know what was on the other side of the door before I would walk through it. I lived in fear… fear of everything. It reflected the kinds of decisions I made and the things I allowed into my life because I would fear to take a stand.  I feared what would happen if I took a stand… I feared if I could handle the repercussions of taking a stand. I am living proof that you can get past the fear and find comfort in your shoes. It took an amazing leap of faith and God has been forever faithful. He has not left my side for a second… although I did leave His a few times. Funny, how when my brain was straying off to the right or left I would blame Him for not being there. Hm?  Thank goodness He has such an amazing sense of humor and He knows each of His kids so well. There are no doubts in my mind He took over when I couldn’t do it or thought I couldn’t do it.

Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Do you see what He is telling us here? Jesus is telling us here that we are promised, that we would receive the Holy Spirit and that we would receive power. Power, I said. Whoa… if you take this like I did, I said “Oh No, not me”. For some reason the word power did not give me a swirly good feeling in my innards. Power seemed like a bad thing, a controlling thing! This is where I am talking about being comfortable in your shoes. Understanding yourself, how you got to where you are, being honest with yourself and finding understanding why things like the word power impact how you receive your calling.

One of the beautiful results of being in such a place is that you can be ok with the fact that laughing at your self is ok. I recently ventured into locking my self in the back of our GMC Envoy. You are definitely wondering or trying to picture how I could do such a thing, right? Well, I began by crawling into the back of the vehicle to put up the dog cage between the last seat and the hatch area. Of course good old Bently Barns the boxer wanted to join me, although there just was not enough room for the both of us. So… I closed the hatch behind me, secured the gate behind the back seat, then turned to open the hatch to get out. Hm? There is no handle on the inside of the hatch door. It was real helpful to have the tinted windows in the back so no one could see me too, except the dogs standing outside the door staring at me and waiting for their nightly car ride to look for deer. Oh my…  Anyway, my sweet boys were playing baseball in the yard and they heard me banging on the window and they let me out as they roared with laughter.

The point of this story is that… I could have taken down the gate and started all over again. That outcome would not have given my sons a refreshing laugh. Now, they take great joy in telling the story of how mom locked herself in the back of the car.

Finding comfort in who you are includes the good, the bad and the indifferent. You can look at the heart of your life and let it unfold into the story that will leave the legacy of your calling for many years and generations to come. So, I ask you again… Are you comfortable in your shoes?

God Bless You & the legacy of your calling!

Home Made Laundry Detergent… Love it!

About a month ago a friend gave me a jug of home-made laundry detergent.  I found this very interesting and I was excited to try it right away. It was different, but I kept an open mind. There were a few lumps in it and it seem to separate if the container sat for a while. To my surprise, I was concerned that it would leave clumps of goo on our clothes, no such thing occurred and I love it.

Today I made my first batch.  First, I have to share the cost savings here. I am guessing it cost me approx $1.25 to make 5 gallons of laundry detergent.

I just want to share how I made this, so you too, can save. I changed the process and the order of how to add the ingredients from the original recipe that I received, to my surprise I only had a few little lumps and my detergent did not separate and it has stayed intact.

Below are the ingredients you need and the approximate cost to purchase.

Super Washing Soda

Aprox $2.50 – $3.00

 Fels-Naptha

Approx $0.97 – $1.50

Borax

Approx $2.50 – $3.50

Other Supplies

In addition, you need 5 one gallon containers. I recommend a heavier clear plastic container. I use apple juice container’s as shown in the picture above. The clear plastic allows you to see what you’re doing as you add contents to the container and the thicker plastic tolerates the heat of the liquid contents while making the detergent. You can re-use the containers over and over.

To get started get all of your supplies ready in a comfortable work space.

Be careful!!! You will be working with hot water.

How to make home-made laundry detergent…

1. Grate Fels-Naptha with the very fine side of the cheese grater.  Set aside in a bowl.

2. Boil water.

3. Pour 4 cups of boiling water in glass measuring bowl.

4. Add 1/2 cup of Borax.

5. Add 1 cup of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda.

Stir with whisk until dissolved….

6. Add Fels-Naptha to mixture and whisk until dissolved.  (Some people microwave contents… I personally did not need to do so. I wrapped a towel around the bottom of the bowl to keep it warm as I stirred the mixture.)

7. Have all 5 empty containers ready and pour the mixture in even amounts into each container. There will only be a small amount of concentrated mixture in each container.

8. Refill glass measuring bowl full of boiling water and then pour another small amount of hot water into each container in even amounts. This will assist in the final melting of the concentrated mixture. Gently swirl each container to mix. Be careful… contents will be hot.

9. After each container has been mixed, refill the glass measuring bowl with hot faucet water as many times as you need and fill each container. (If you fill containers directly with the faucet itself it will cause foaming and the container is harder to fill.)  Leave 1-2 inches of free space from the opening at the top of the container. This allows room to shake after the lid is applied.

10. Apply all of the lids to the containers and carefully shake each container randomly, multiple times, until they cool. There will be approximately 1 inch of  foamy mixture at the top of the detergent and there may be some small lumps. As you perfect your process it will get better. Have Fun 🙂

I personally have utilized bleach and Downy fabric softener with my detergent and I have not had any abnormal outcomes… I love the feel, fresh smell and cleanliness of this mixture. My whites are white and our clothes are clean. I am a perfectionist in many ways and I love it!  Stacy Rae

That’s it, you are done….

Now you can enjoy making your own laundry detergent and save $$$.

Have a great day!
